The Summer 2020 relaunched collection celebrates AO’s most impactful styles – the Original PilotTM, the General, and the Saratoga. American Optical’s heritage, dating back to 1833, is not only full of impressive innovations in manufacturing but also celebrated moments in American history. AO pioneered designing and manufacturing sunglasses for American military pilots. The Summer 2020 collection will relaunch all three iconic styles.
By reinstating many original details and improving fitting properties, AO restores their iconic styles to its original glory. Bolstered solder points strengthen the construction of metal styles. Precise shape enhancements improve optics and reduce glare, while offering better comfort. Perhaps the most exciting development though is the return of the Saratoga. The classic style, popularized by JFK, has not been produced by AO in decades. To celebrate the relaunch, AO Eyewear is offering a palette of six time-honored yet modern colors for the iconic style.
With the relaunch, AO will again be available to independent ECP offices through parent companies STATE Optical Co. and Europa Eyewear. These three styles (and more following later in the year) are sure to appeal to US-Style Connoisseurs, those who appreciate classic American design and are able to infuse their personality into timeless looks.
Much focus has been placed on developing the highest quality lenses possible. AO has a rich history in optics and is famous for meeting the high demands of pilots, for whom performance optics are crucial. All lenses feature a backside anti-reflective coating and an oleophobic smudge-proof coating.
