With nearly 60,000 eye care providers nationwide, less than 2% of practicing optometrists and ophthalmologists in the United States identify as Black or African American. Black EyeCare Perspective is making it easier for patients to locate a Black eye care provider in their community with their Black Eye Doctor Locator which is now available at www.blackeyecareperspective.com. Search by location and filter by specialty, the Black Eye Doctor Locator has over 100 Black optometrists (OD) and ophthalmologists (MD) and the database is growing daily. About Black EyeCare Perspective
Black EyeCare Perspective, founded by optometrists Drs. Adam Ramsey and Darryl Glover was designed and created to cultivate and foster lifelong relationships between Black eye care providers and the eyecare industry. Along with Drs. Essence Johnson (Chief Visionary Officer) and Jacobi Cleaver (Director of Program Management), Black EyeCare Perspective is redefining the color of the eyecare industry 1% at a time by creating a pipeline for Black students into optometry and connecting communities with Black eye care professionals and Black eye care businesses. Black EyeCare Perspective’s 13% Promise initiative is a call for in Black and African American representation in the eye care industry to align with the US census for better health outcomes.
