Corners and edges have always fascinated me, says Katharina Schlager, because they give rise to something special. And CAZAL is special. Hardly any other brand has produced such extraordinary designs, she says, and following a year of orientation and further training is now looking forward to new challenges as its CEO and Creative Director. Previous managing director Beate Obersteiner, who successfully managed the brand for many years, will leave the company at the end of 2019 to begin a well-deserved retirement. She will, though, continue to support the company in an advisory capacity. Klaus Lippert, General Director since 2015, will continue to be responsible for Finance and Operations.
Katharina Schlager is no stranger in the industry – she, after all, had a significant influence on the image of Andy Wolf Eyewear for 13 years. “For me it feels like the second great love. A love that you consciously perceive and are ready for,” says Schlager. She sees the further development of a brand like CAZAL as a special mission. Beautiful and demanding at the same time. Because Cari Zalloni’s legacy needs to be cultivated. Cautiously, but without only living in the past. After all, life consists of movement and development, which is also particularly applicable to a brand like CAZAL, according to Schlager.
There have always been points of contact with the brand for Katharina Schlager. Not just because chief designer and namesake Cari Zalloni lived not far from Katharina Schlager’s home town, but because Zallonis’s designs are inextricably linked to the world of eyewear. CAZAL created “Iconic Styles”, worn by the greats of the arts and music scenes. Something like that doesn’t just happen by chance, but is the result of unconditional devotion, unerring intuition and the kind of consistency that can give rise to something special. Something else that unites Schlager and Zalloni and that creates considerable expectations for the future
“It is important to me that Cari continues to be perceptible in our work. His designs have made history and yet are incredibly timeless,” says Schlager, very clearly acknowledging CAZAL’s roots. New and above all feminine impulses can nevertheless be expected. Because at the end of the day it’s all about passion and something akin to good fortune. “The fortune to be allowed to do something that touches others and which brings one fulfilment,” concludes the designer.
