Founders Day Established at ClearVision Optical May 6

HAUPPAUGE, NY – May 2015 – Optical industry leader ClearVision Optical establishes May 6, 2015 as its first annual Founder’s Day in honor of its inspiring founder, Fred Friedfeld, who passed away last July. Fred, whose birthday was May 6, would have celebrated his 88th birthday.

ClearVision created Founder’s Day as an homage to Fred, who established the company at the age of 22 as a distributor of eyewear.  Fred developed a lifelong reputation for personal service; he was an entrepreneur whose strong character and sincere caring for others helped him build relationships with people all over the world.

“My father touched so many people throughout his life and in his 65 year career with ClearVision,” says his son, Peter Friedfeld, executive vice president of ClearVision. “He connected immediately with those he met, and was a mentor to so many.  He was a man of integrity, and he believed in treating others as they wanted to be treated—all which has contributed to the unique culture we have at ClearVision.  On Founder’s Day, we will reflect on ‘What Fred Would Do,’ to ensure we are doing whatever it takes to care for our customers and each other.”

Last summer, the Friedfeld family established the Fred Friedfeld Memorial scholarship at the SUNY School of Optometry to recognize current optometry graduate students based on academic merit and financial need. Throughout the month of May, ClearVision will connect with friends and partners to remember Fred’s legacy while furthering his pursuit of helping others. Contributions to the scholarship can be made via the Optometry school’s website at by selecting the Fred Friedfeld Memorial Scholarship.  Donations are tax deductable and will be matched by ClearVision.

Friends are invited to share their favorite “Fred” stories and sentiments on our Facebook page throughout the entire month of May. Visit us at
