Wood Sunwear: Brushwood Eyewear

The Optical Journal - Optical News With Independent Views

From Huntington Beach, California, a wood sunglass line is evolving. Brushwood started out in New Jersey in 2010 and is now located in the middle of Surf City, Huntington Beach. Here is my beef with all the ‘wood’ eyewear companies. Bamboo is NOT a wood, it is a grass. It can be eco-friendly if the bamboo comes from sustainable farming.

That said, the company has two classic styles that fit the surfing, outdoor lifestyle.

A combination of acetate (plastic) and bamboo temples, the classic wayfarer look.

Coincidentally, the Elwood is named after a street in New Jersey not the Blues Brothers. Made with Acetate and Zebra Wood

The styling is thus for the hip, surf culture in southern California. The owners are young and ambitious and I am sure they will do well.
